The Ten Best Apps to Save Money on Groceries

Many Americans are seeing higher grocery bills thanks to staggering levels of inflation. It’s becoming more challenging to fill your fridge without going over your budget. With coupons becoming less common, more Americans are turning to mobile applications to save money at the supermarket. These applications give you cashback, free samples, and exclusive deals. As you reap the savings, be sure to use our transaction tracker and money organizer to visualize your expenditures.

Are you ready to trim your grocery bill? These are the best apps to save money on groceries:

1.    Fetch

Fetch is an easy-to-use application that lets you scan your receipts and earn points. You can redeem points for gift cards at numerous retailers, including Amazon and Target. In addition to gift cards, you can test your luck by entering various sweepstakes. The application rewards you for every receipt you scan, but you’ll earn more points when purchasing specific brands. There are also special offers that give you bonus points for buying a particular product. Fetch is compatible with receipts from any store, but you must scan the receipt within 14 days.

2.    Ibotta

With Ibotta, you can earn cashback when you shop online and in person. There are two ways to use Ibotta – through the Chrome extension or the mobile application available on android and iOS. You can earn cashback at some of the nation’s largest retailers – HEB, Albertsons, and Amazon, to name a few. So, Ibotta isn’t just a way to save money on groceries – it’s a way to save money on thousands of products and services. And unlike Fetch, you don’t necessarily need to upload your receipt to the Ibotta application. When you create a loyalty account, Ibotta automatically matches your purchases to the offers on the application.

3.    ReceiptHog

ReceiptHog is another application that gives you cashback and rewards for your everyday purchases. All you have to do is download it on the App Store or Google Play application, create an account, and start uploading your receipts. After uploading your receipts, you’ll earn coins that you can redeem for Visa e-gift card codes, Amazon gift cards, or cash (via PayPal). ReceiptHog awards coins based on your receipt total. For example, purchases between $50 – and $100 earn you 15 coins, and receipts above $100 earn you 20 coins. You’ll need at least 1,000 coins before you can redeem them for cash or gift cards.

4.    Target Circle

Target’s reward program, Target Circle, is an excellent way to save money on groceries, clothes, and other products the big box store sells. Participants earn a 1% credit on their purchases that they can redeem towards the next item they buy at the store. Moreover, members can access numerous exclusive deals that aren’t available to the general public. As a Target Circle member, you’ll also receive a generous 5% discount on your birthday. You can earn cashback either in-store or online. Customers with the Target RedCard receive 5% off every purchase and can also access the Target Circle’s unbeatable offers. If you have a Target RedCard, check out our credit card tracker app and income-based repayment calculator.

5.    Rakuten

Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates) has over 15 million members and is one of the leading cashback platforms in the United States. To start, all you have to do is create a free account and then install the mobile application or Chrome extension. You’ll earn cashback at over 3,500 stores, including various grocery retailers. Rakuten requires users to accumulate at least $5 in cashback to get paid. You can choose to receive payment via check or PayPal. The only downside to Rakuten is that you only receive payment once every three months. But, on the flip side, you can earn up to 15% cashback at some of your favorite retailers.

6.    Coupons.com

Coupons.com is perhaps one of the most popular coupon sources on the internet. There’s both a website and application where you can find up to 100 grocery coupons at a given time. Most coupons give you a couple of dollars off the product or a free item. Since most stores don’t accept electronic coupons, you’ll need a printer to take advantage of the deals on Coupons.com.

7.    CoinOut

CoinOut was featured on the hit TV show Shark Tank and the founder, Jeff Witten, got a $250,000 deal from Robert Herjavec. The application is available on the App Store and Google Play, and getting started only takes seconds. You have to upload a receipt (from any store), and CoinOut will give you a random cashback reward (between one to ten cents). If you upload receipts consistently, you’ll have the chance to earn surprise bonuses. You can also earn more cashback by purchasing products from CoinOut’s partner markets.

8.    Checkout 51

You can effortlessly save money with Checkout 51 – an application compatible with android devices and iOS. The application is available in the United States and Canada. Checkout 51 rolls out new offers each week, and you can earn anywhere from $0.25 to a few dollars if you purchase them. Offers are available for one week, and there are limited quantities. Unlike other applications on our list, Checkout 51 requires you to buy specific products. After uploading a receipt, Checkout 51 will validate your purchase and credit your account. Once your account reaches $20, you can cash out and receive a check via mail.

9.    Makeena

Makeena is an application that targets consumers who buy healthy and eco-friendly products. The application lets you earn cashback by purchasing over 80 brands, including Arm & Hammer, Earth Balance, and Vana Life Foods. For every 1,000 points you earn, you’ll earn $1, and you need a maximum of $20 to redeem your points. You can also earn $1 by referring friends. Although many of Makeena’s partner brands sell higher-priced products, this application is a must-have if you enjoy natural and green products.

10. Dosh

The last application to make our list is Dosh. This cashback platform rewards you for shopping at some of the nation’s largest retailers (including various grocery stores). Dosh is unique in that it doesn’t require you to upload receipts. Instead, Dosh uses your phone’s wallet and automatically gives you cashback (the application does not store your card information). Once you build a $25 balance, you can receive the cash via PayPal, Venmo, or bank transfer.
